How did you become a Hypnotherapist?
I’ve had an interest in human nature and self-development as long as I can remember and this had led me on to various courses and workshops including psychology, the therapeutic use of storytelling and Reiki. Then following prolonged attacks of glandular fever which I believe were caused by the effects of stress following my fathers death through lung cancer, dealing with a divorce and studying for the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development Professional Exams whilst also working full time, I decided enough was enough and I needed a happier way to live my life.
I didn’t know what so I bought a copy of Floodlight for inspiration and started looking through it to see what caught my eye. An advert for the UK College for Complementary Health Care Studies stood out and I made a call. I happened to speak to the Head of the College when I called and she was so inspirational that I found, before I’d put the phone down, that I’d booked on to a weekend workshop for Hypnotherapy. Cynics amongst you will be saying “great sales woman and a Hypnotherapist too………” and maybe so but my gut feeling felt good about it and without that I can’t be made to do anything I don’t want to do (just ask my mum).
The weekend workshop opened my eyes to a whole new world and I went back to the college the following week to enrol in the full Counselling and Hypnotherapy course. It was every other weekend Saturday and Sunday for an entire year (with a travelling time of 3 hours each day) so you’d think it would have been tough. No! It was the most amazing year of my life. I made good friends, spent huge amounts of time in trance (a wonderful relaxed state), laughed loads and most importantly learnt how to be happy.
If I had never worked as an Hypnotherapist it would have been worth it. But I’d also found something that not only was I really good at but I also felt really good doing to. The thing everyone wants, to earn money doing something they really love.
Why did you set up Tums2Mums?
I set up Tums2Mums after I found that an increasing number of my clients were pregnant women asking for help with such things as:
¨ Morning sickness ¨ Acute tiredness ¨ Severe back ache ¨ Fear of and managing pain in childbirth
I was also being approached by stressed out Mums with feelings of guilt and inadequacy, looking for ways to better enjoy both their family and their life.
What qualifications do you have?
To support me in the work that I do at Tums2Mums I have gained the following qualifications:
¨ Certified City and Guilds Counsellor and Hypnotherapist gained through the UK College for Complementary Health Care Studies.
¨ Certified HypnoBirthing® Fertility Therapist, trained by Lynsi Eastburn the creator of this wonderful programme and author of ‘It’s Conceivable’ a must have book for anyone with fertility issues.
