A Home HypnoBirth
Hello Everyone,
Hope you're all well.
I'm very pleased to tell you that our son Jasper Michael Jonathan Gregory was born on Thursday 10th June at 11.25am, weighing in at a healthy 8lb 8oz.
We were incredibly fortunate enough to have had the homebirth we planned & can honestly say that hypnobirthing is main reason it all went so well!
Wednesday evening there were a few signals that things may be starting and by about 10.30pm we were certain as there were very mild surges happening at fairly regular intervals about 7 mins apart. They were totally manageable with some focused breathing so we called the hospital just to let them know, but told them not to contact the midwife just yet as I was planning on trying to get some sleep first.
I did try & lie down for a bit, but the sensations & excitement wouldn't allow me to sleep, so Jon went to bed & I relaxed in the living room listening to various mp3s & affirmations to get myself nice & relaxed.
I got Jon up at about 3.30am as the sensations were getting a little stronger & he made us some tea & woke himself up a bit.
We called the hospital and I spoke to the midwife on duty who said that as I was still talking through them to sit tight for a little while longer....which I was perfectly happy to do.
About 4.30am it got to the point where I could no longer comfortably talk through the sensations so we called again & they said they'd contact the midwife. Maureen (our midwife) called me & said she'd be with us within about 1/2 an hour.
She arrived and her first comments were so positive saying that I was obviously coping well breathing & bouncing on my ball (that thing is a miracle invention!) She examined me & I was 4cm dilated which I was really pleased with. She then said as we were doing so well she'd go back to the office to get some paperwork sorted & come back in an hour & to call if anything dramatic changed.
The next hour the sensations got quite intense & when Maureen got back she immediately asked if I wanted gas. Instead Jon ran me a bath & when I got in I couldn't believe the difference it made, so I stayed there for a while without gas.
I should add at this point, all this time Jon was struggling with our boiler which had decided to pack up so he was unable to fill the pool...this hadn't bothered me at first, but when I got in the bath & realised the difference water made I was a little disappointed not to be able to use it. (our shower is electric so we filled the bath with the shower head instead!)
I started to feel the urge to birth breath, so Maureen brought the gas in for me, which we then took into the bedroom. She examined me again & I was now 8cm dilated so was using the gas to breath through the surges as the urge to birth breath was pretty strong.
It took a couple more hours to become fully dilated & birth Jasper...he was put straight onto me & breastfed immediately, he's a very clever little man!!:)
Jon was amazing & with his support & using the hypno techniques, mp3s, affirmations etc. the whole experience was hugely positive. Being at home meant I was completely relaxed and able to really stay in control of my feelings about the whole experience.
When it came to calling the 2nd midwife Maureen asked me how I'd feel about a student attending. If I'd been in hospital I don't think I'd have been so happy to agree to it, but being in the comfort of our own home I was completely happy to have a student so when Jasper actually arrived we ended up having 3 midwives with us....royal treatment!!!;)
The past few days have been a constant stream of visitors, nappy changing, feeding, sleeping etc. and we're all loving it! Jon & I are both pretty tired but making sure we get time for just us 3 too so it's all good.
I don't think we're going to make the hyp'n'happening group tomorrow as we haven't quite got around to actually venturing out just yet. So attached are a couple of pictures of our entirely perfect & utterly delicious Jasper!
I will definitely be at the next one as I'm hoping Jasper & I will have everything under control by then!!
Really sorry for rambling on so much, just very excited about sharing such a positive experience with you all.
Zoe - how are you & Jack getting on? Can't wait to introduce Jasper to him!
Eloise & Suzanne - how are you both? Are you getting some feet up time yet?
Dany - I can't thank you enough...it really does work!!!!
take care
Caz
xx
