What is the difference between this and the HypnoBirthing® programme?

The HypnoBirthing® course is a complete antenatal programme incorporating such other topics as preparation of the body and prenatal bonding.  I have found that some of my clients only want to learn the hypnosis techniques as they are already attending either NHS or NCT antenatal classes (and perhaps pregnancy yoga too).  I have therefore put together a 2 session programme devoted to learning the important techniques for preparing the mind for an easy, comfortable and relaxed birth.

These are private sessions for you and your partner.

Clients have said that this has been a wonderful compliment to their antenatal classes.

What will I learn during the Hypnosis for Childbirth course?

Session one will begin with teaching you how the body is designed to work during childbirth and how fear and anxiety cause the muscles of your uterus to work against you and in turn cause great pain.

Followed by an explanation of how hypnosis works you will learn a variety of techniques that you will practise at home.  This will enable you to remain in the calm relaxed state required during the birth of your baby to ensure that you can be comfortable and in control.   Dad’s (or your birthing partner) will also learn how to bring you into this state of relaxation.

Session two will normally take place 2 weeks after the first session to enable you plenty of time to practise the techniques at home and bring with you any questions.  This session will include a special hypnosis session for releasing unwanted fears and emotions, how the techniques fit in with the different stages of labour and the importance of the role of the father.

Is there any support outside of my sessions?

You will be given:

¨ 2 x audio CDs for use during your practise sessions at home and during the birth of your baby

¨ Telephone and/or email support up until the birth of your baby for advice and assistance.

What are the benefits

Because this programme is concentrating on preparing the mind using hypnosis all of the benefits as outlined in the HypnoBirthing® course can be gained.  These include:

¨ Easier, calmer and more comfortable birthing experience

¨ Reduce the length of the first stage of labour by anything from 2 - 4 hours

¨ Lower the chances of a breech birth by learning how to 'turn' the baby into the correct position using posture and self-hypnosis

¨ Increase your milk flow by using the relaxation techniques you'll learn, if you're planning to breastfeed

¨ Dramatically reduce your likelihood of suffering from post-natal depression, because you'll have had a much calmer and less painful birth

¨ Recover physically from the birth much faster, because you haven't 'wasted' energy in the process

¨ Develop the confidence in your own body to aim for a homebirth, if that is an option you want to consider

¨ And remember it’s great for the dads and babies too!

Does it matter how many weeks pregnant I am?

Within reason, no. The sooner you start, the more time you have to practise.

And even if you're late into your pregnancy, I can still help you.

I’ve had mothers who had only a few weeks left until the birth and still achieved the results they wanted.

When are the classes held?

The Hypnosis for Childbirth course runs as two sessions.  Session 1— 3 hours and session 2—2 hours (totalling 5 hours).  As these are private sessions mutually convenient dates can be arranged.

Where are they taught?

Classes are held in the relaxed comfortable atmosphere of my home in Sidcup, Kent.  As these sessions are specifically for you I can also tailor the session around your particular concerns and wants for the birth of your baby.

How much does it cost?

The cost of attending the Hypnosis for Childbirth course is £250.

As this is a private course purely focussing on learning the hypnosis techniques to enable you to have an easier, calmer and more comfortable birth, I believe this course gives couples the opportunity to learn these wonderful hypnosis techniques in a way that is tailor made for them.

Included in the prices of the course is:

¨ 5 hours of instruction (as stated above) for you and your birthing partner.

¨ An audio CD for relaxation and preparing the mind for birthing

¨ An audio CD to support practise of discomfort management and anaesthesia techniques

¨ Manual (including many scripts and useful information).

¨ Telephone and/or email support up until the birth of your baby

How can Hypnosis help during childbirth?

Just to let you know that on Tuesday 10th April I had a beautiful baby boy. He weighed 7lbs 13 ozs! The birth experience was amazing and positive. From 11 pm through to 5 am I used the blue satin visualisation technique and dilated to 8 cms alone. I had gas and air for the final stage until Charlie arrived completely calm and practically cooing. The mid wives were baffled as they constantly thought I was asleep until they saw the monitor showing a strong surge!!”

Caroline Welsh, Mum to Charlie, attended her first session at 35 weeks pregnant.

Specialised hypnotherapy for FErtility, Pregnancy,

childbirth and beyond...

This is just to let you know that our son, Valentine Izon-ekiye Clarke, was born on 4 December at 9.40 am. He weighed 7 pounds 8 ounces. The birth was an AMAZING empowering experience - the slow breathing enabled me to reach 10 centimetres so calmly that the midwives had no idea how advanced I was (you've heard that sentence before, I'm sure). It was also wonderful being able to adopt several different positions like the polar bear, standing, sitting on the loo. I only felt intense pressure when the baby's head was pressing down on the fore waters and I wasn't ready to breathe the baby down but wasn't quite sure how to breathe any more. I asked for gas and air which took some time to arrive and then my waters broke spectacularly all over the floor (I was standing at the time). It was at this stage the midwives realised that baby was more than ready to meet the world. Twenty minutes later, Valentine arrived. The whole event was 8 and a half hours from start to finish. As we had requested a midwife who was into natural birth, my birth plan was completely respected. They even let me birth the placenta naturally (they call it a physiological third stage) which is unheard of in Darenth Valley. Whilst I had not been allowed to give birth in a pool or the midwife-led unit (because of fibroids), they transferred me to the latter as soon as I'd had my bath. It was wonderful - so quiet and relaxing. I'd strongly recommend it.”
